Visage Abstrait

« In the face, the whole universe becomes manifest » – Alexej von Jawlensky.

This distancing from any precise reference is even more evident in the series of Têtes géométriques (1921-1933), in which the geometric effect completely dominates the subject. In this structure, the artist achieves a steady linear model where only the colours vary. He eventually reached an archetype of a U-shaped face, a triangle of hair, a star in the arc of a circle and closed eyes portraying deep spirituality.
